Boba Sort: Official Reward Odds & Drop Rate Disclosures
Last Updated: September 2026
App Version: 2.0 and later
Boba Sort is committed to transparency and fair play, in line with digital marketplace disclosure standards such as Apple App Store Review Guideline 3.1.1. This page explains every randomized reward in the game, the odds behind it, and the balancing rules that adjust those odds. It also lists the rewards that are fixed and involve no chance.
No randomized reward in Boba Sort can be bought directly with real money. Randomized rewards come from Daily Challenge Boxes, and the random parts of star rewards and city unlocks decide only which cities are offered to you. You always choose where your stars go and which city you open.
1. Overview
Randomized (odds disclosed below):
• Daily Challenge Boxes (Section 2)
• Which cities are offered when you earn Stars (Section 3)
• Which cities appear in the Shop's Daily Deals (Section 4)
• Which cities are offered when you unlock a new city (Section 5)
Fixed (no chance involved):
• Cafes and Items unlocked by Stars (Section 6)
• Win Streak Boxes, Daily Bonus, Shop Star Packs
• Weekly Tournament prizes
• Monthly Seasonal Locations and their Items
• Limited Time Offer
• Daily Income and Shift Income
2. Daily Challenge Boxes
Each claimed Daily Challenge opens a box of 6 face-down cards. The cards are shuffled into random positions, and you pick 1. Every card is equally likely to be the one you pick, so each card has a 1 in 6 (16.67%) chance.
2.1 Standard box contents
• Small Coins (100 Coins): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
• Medium Coins (300 Coins): 2 of 6 cards, 33.33%
• Large Coins (900 Coins): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
• Infinite Lives (10 minutes): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
• Star (1 Star for one of your cities, see 2.4): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
By category, that is Coins 66.67%, Infinite Lives 16.67%, and Stars 16.67%.
Note: The coin amounts (100, 300 and 900) and the Infinite Lives duration (10 minutes, or 30 minutes in 2.3) shown are the current values. They are set by server configuration and may be changed remotely. The number of cards of each reward, and so the chances above, are not affected.
2.2 Balancing (bad-luck and anti-streak protection)
The game keeps a running count of every card you have picked from standard Daily Challenge Boxes. It compares each reward's count with its expected share: 1 in 6 picks for Small Coins, Large Coins, Infinite Lives and Stars, and 1 in 3 for Medium Coins. Before a box is shuffled, its cards are adjusted:
Behind by 1 or more (bad-luck protection):
• Star, Infinite Lives or Large Coins: a coin card becomes that reward. A Small Coins card is used first, otherwise a Medium Coins card.
• Small Coins: a Medium Coins card becomes Small Coins.
• Medium Coins: a Small Coins card becomes Medium Coins.
Ahead by 1 or more (anti-streak protection):
• Star or Infinite Lives: that card becomes Medium Coins.
• Large Coins: that card becomes Small Coins.
• Small Coins: that card becomes Medium Coins.
• Medium Coins: a Medium Coins card becomes Small Coins.
A box always holds exactly 6 cards. Over time, these adjustments keep each player's results close to the standard odds in 2.1.
2.3 Struggling-player box
If you have failed or restarted your current Shift 4 or more times without winning it, your next Daily Challenge Box uses this set of cards instead. Picks from this box do not count toward the balancing in 2.2.
• Infinite Lives (10 minutes): 2 of 6 cards, 33.33%
• Infinite Lives (30 minutes): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
• Medium Coins (300 Coins): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
• Large Coins (900 Coins): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
• Star (1 Star, see 2.4): 1 of 6 cards, 16.67%
2.4 Which city a box Star goes to
A Star from a Daily Challenge Box goes to a city chosen when the box is opened, and the card shows that city:
1. A city other than your current city that still has a Cafe or Item left to unlock. Each such city has an equal chance.
2. If there is none, any city other than your current city, with equal chances.
3. If your current city is your only city, your current city.
Seasonal Locations never receive box Stars.
2.5 Your first box
The first Daily Challenge Box you ever open always gives 1 Star for your first city, whichever card you pick.
2.6 Doubling
After picking a card, you may watch an optional video to receive the same reward a second time. A doubled Star goes to the same city. Doubling is currently limited to 10 times per day. This limit is set by server configuration and may be changed remotely.
3. Earning Stars: Which Cities You Are Offered
These rewards give Stars for a city of your choice:
• Win Streak Box: 1 Star, every 5 Shifts won in a row (5, 10, 15 …)
• Daily Bonus: 1 Star, for completing all of the day's Daily Challenges
• Shop Star Packs: 1, 3 or 5 Stars, bought with in-game Coins for 2,000, 5,500 or 9,000 Coins
• Weekly Tournament: 3, 2 or 1 Stars, for finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd
• Limited Time Offer: 1 Star, included in the offer (Section 7)
Each time you earn one of these rewards, you are shown 2 cities and choose one. All of the reward's Stars go to the city you choose. The two cities are always different and are chosen from your unlocked cities as described below. The options are set when the reward is earned; closing and reopening the app does not change them.
3.1 First option
The first option is usually your current city, the city shown on the Home screen where your next Shift takes place:
• Always offered on the first Star reward after you finish, fail, restart or leave a Shift, or after your current city changes.
• Otherwise offered 50% of the time. It is always offered if it was left out of the previous 2 Star rewards.
• Finished current city: if your current city has nothing left to unlock and another city does, then 50% of the time the first option is instead a weighted-random city with something left to unlock (see 3.3).
• When your current city is not offered, including when you are playing at a Seasonal Location, the first option is a weighted-random unlocked city.
3.2 Second option
• New players: for your first 8 Star rewards after choosing your first city, the second option is your first city, as long as it still has something left to unlock.
• Otherwise, it is a weighted-random unlocked city other than the first option. 50% of the time, when possible, it is drawn only from cities that still have a Cafe or Item left to unlock. The other 50% of the time, it is drawn from all of your unlocked cities.
3.3 Weighting
Every weighted-random draw above favors cities with fewer Stars. Each eligible city's weight is:
Weight = 1 ÷ (Stars in that city + 1)
A city with 100 or more Stars has its weight halved. A city's chance is its weight divided by the total weight of all eligible cities.
Example: if the eligible cities have 0, 3 and 9 Stars, their weights are 1, 0.25 and 0.1. Their chances are 74.1%, 18.5% and 7.4%.
4. Shop Daily Deals
The Shop offers 2 Star deals each day. Each is 1 Star for a named city, for 1,750 Coins, and can be bought once. The two cities are different and are picked at random with equal chances from your unlocked cities that still have a Cafe or Item left to unlock. If there are not enough of those, any unlocked city can be picked. Seasonal Locations are never picked. You may watch an optional video to swap a deal for another random city, picked the same way, up to 5 times per day. Deals refresh at midnight.
The Shop's third Daily Deal, Daily Income, is fixed (Section 7).
5. Unlocking New Cities
There are 64 cities. New cities unlock as you progress through Shifts: your first city after Shift 1, then one each time you reach Shift 4, 7, 11, 16, 21, 25, 30, 40 and 50, and so on at increasing intervals. Each unlock lets you choose 1 city from 4 options. The options are set when the unlock becomes available and stay the same until you choose.
5.1 Your first city
Your first city is always your choice of New York City, London, Tokyo, or Sydney.
5.2 Later unlocks
Every city has a difficulty, which sets how many Stars its Cafes and Item need (Section 6). The 4 options are built from your still-locked cities as follows:
• Slot 1: an Easy city
• Slot 2: a Medium city
• Slot 3: a Hard city
• Slot 4: an Expert city 33.33% of the time; otherwise an Easy or Medium city (66.67%)
• Nearest city: the locked city closest to your current city is always one of the 4 options. It takes the slot for its own difficulty. If it is an Expert city and the Expert slot was not rolled, it takes the last remaining slot.
• Other slots: every other slot is filled by a random locked city of that difficulty, with equal chances. If no city of that difficulty is left, the slot is filled by any other locked city.
• Featured cities: early unlocks may include a featured city in its difficulty's slot.
• No repeats: no city appears twice, and the 4 options are shown in random order.
• Space Station: it is offered only once every other city has been unlocked, as the only option.
6. Cafes and Items (Fixed)
Each city has 4 Cafes and 1 Item (a drink, topping, straw, music track or solve animation). Cafe 1 opens with the city. The rest unlock at fixed Star totals for that city, based on its difficulty:
• Easy: Cafe 2 at 2 Stars, Cafe 3 at 3 Stars, Cafe 4 at 4 Stars, Item (city complete) at 5 Stars
• Medium: Cafe 2 at 3 Stars, Cafe 3 at 6 Stars, Cafe 4 at 10 Stars, Item (city complete) at 15 Stars
• Hard: Cafe 2 at 5 Stars, Cafe 3 at 10 Stars, Cafe 4 at 25 Stars, Item (city complete) at 50 Stars
• Expert: Cafe 2 at 25 Stars, Cafe 3 at 50 Stars, Cafe 4 at 100 Stars, Item (city complete) at 200 Stars
Stars placed in a city after it is complete still count toward that city's Shift Income (Section 7).
7. Other Fixed Rewards
7.1 Weekly Tournaments
Prizes are set by your final rank when the weekly tournament ends:
• 1st: 3 Stars
• 2nd: 2 Stars
• 3rd: 1 Star
• 4th and below: none
Where the Stars go works as described in Section 3.
7.2 Monthly Seasonal Locations
Each month has a Seasonal Location. Each claimed Daily Challenge earns 1 Challenge Point; the Daily Bonus does not. Points can also be bought with in-game Coins at 300 Coins per point. Points reset at the start of each month.
• 75 points: that month's Seasonal Location Cafe for the year. If you already own it, you receive 2,000 Coins instead.
• 125 points: that Seasonal Location's Item. Once earned, it is kept for good; in later years, 125 points that month gives nothing further.
Seasonal Locations and their Items:
• January: Antarctica, Peppermint Tea (drink)
• February: Iceland, Rose Tea (drink)
• March: Salar de Uyuni, Salted Caramel Milk Tea (drink)
• April: Kyoto, Hojicha (drink)
• May: Hawaii, Flower Bloom (solve animation)
• June: Amazon, Açaí Smoothie (drink)
• July: Rocky Mountains, Lemonade (drink)
• August: Serengeti, Sunburst (solve animation)
• September: Yellowstone, Huckleberry Tea (drink)
• October: Transylvania, Fall Leaves (solve animation)
• November: New England, English Breakfast (drink)
• December: Alps, Snowfall (solve animation)
7.3 Limited Time Offer
The Limited Time Offer is a real-money purchase with fixed contents, all shown before you buy:
• 3,000 Coins
• 60 minutes of Infinite Lives
• 1 Star, for a city of your choice (Section 3)
It also removes required ads.
7.4 Daily Income
Each unlocked Cafe and Item earns 1 Coin per day, claimable in the Shop. A Seasonal Location's Cafes count once together, and its Item counts once more.
7.5 Shift Income
Each cup you complete in a Shift earns 1 Coin. The city where the Shift takes place multiplies this. Each of its Stars adds 0.01 Coins per cup, up to a maximum multiplier of ×2 at 100 Stars. At a Seasonal Location, each unlocked Cafe adds 25% instead. One playthrough of a Shift can earn at most 40 Coins from cups, or 80 on a double-rewards Shift.
8. Fair Play
• Purchases do not change odds. Real-money purchases do not affect any probability on this page.
• Only disclosed factors change odds. The odds depend only on your progress and play history, as described above: your cities and their Stars, your current city, your past box picks, and failed attempts at your current Shift.
• Locked content is never offered. Random draws include only content you are eligible for.
